Sturdy, lightweight suiting made of quality virgin wool, a twill weave in black. Perfect for trousers, skirts, or blazers for a classic, tailored look, as well as dresses, light jackets, and historical costumes.
This fabric is woven from virgin wool – new, non-recycled wool. It is not scratchy at all. On the contrary – it is smooth and soft to the touch with all the benefits that only wool can deliver:
Fabrics made of virgin wool are sturdier, more durable, and longer lasting than those made of recycled wool.
Lightweight wool suiting is a classic textile and before the advent of synthetic fibers it formed a large part of our wardrobe, accounting for:
Use this fine wool fabric to sew a pencil skirt, an elegant pair of slacks, or a winter suit skirt or experiment with making a light coat or a minimalist dress.
This fabric can be reinforced and shaped with a steam iron.
Our wool suiting is easy to cut and sew and forgives little mistakes, but you should have a basic idea of how to work with wool:
For wool fabrics it’s a good idea to use a lining of silk, acetate, cupro, or rayon to preserve breathability in the final garment.
We recommend dry cleaning this wool fabric at a reliable dry cleaner. If construction of the final garment allows, may be washed by hand or by machine on the woolens program; use a special detergent for woolens; wash at a low temperature (30°C) with the spin cycle switched off.
Wool garments do not need to be ironed; simply hang on a good hanger while damp to dry. When sewing, iron only from the wrong side using the wool setting.
If we recommend pre-shrinking the fabric before sewing we usually say so in the product description. Let the recommended care notes in the fabric description be your guide – they will tell you if the fabric can be washed or steam ironed. Woolen fabrics are usually pre-shrunk by steaming from the back. Some fabrics should be dry cleaned only. For larger projects or more expensive fabrics, we recommend testing anything (washing, ironing, etc.) on a sample. Wool is a natural material and is never absolutely predictable.
