When you take good care of your fabric and the garments you sew with it, they will last much longer. Sounds obvious, but it’s awfully easy to forget. Proper care starts before sewing – some fabrics should be washed or pre-shrunk and others should never see the inside of a washing machine. Sometimes you might find a care tag in an article of clothing, where the manufacturer seems to wash its hands of any responsibility at all for what you do with the garment. In all events, knowing your way around fabric care is certainly practical. Not all delicate looking fabrics have to be exclusively handwashed or dry cleaned, and not all sturdy looking fabrics can take endless spinning in the washer and dryer. At Sartor we do our own tests for washing, shrinkage, and other care of our materials, so everything we write is backed up with actual experience.
